Post-Operative Care After Hair Transplantation

The transplanted area does not need to be washed until the third day after the final day of the hair transplant procedure. You can clean your forehead and face daily using a wet wipe. It is also safe to take a shower and wash your body every day, as long as you avoid letting water run directly over your scalp.

First Day After Hair Transplant

One day after your hair transplant procedure, gently remove the dressing from the donor area.
Wash the donor site using lukewarm water and a special shampoo by softly rubbing with your hands. After drying, apply a healing cream to the donor area.

There is no need to reapply a dressing after the initial removal.
Continue this washing and care routine once a day until the seventh day after your hair transplant in Shiraz.

An important point to remember is that the recipient area should not be washed until the third day following the final day of the hair transplant procedure.
You can gently clean your forehead and face using a wet wipe. It is safe to shower your body daily without letting water run directly over your scalp.

When Can You Wash Your Hair After a Hair Transplant?

From the fourth to sixth days post-transplant, it is crucial to clean the recipient area carefully:

  • Use a spray bottle filled with a mixture of lukewarm water and shampoo.

  • Gently spray the solution directly onto the transplanted area once daily.

  • Do not rub or touch the grafted area until after the sixth day.

  • There is no need to use saline solutions; cooled boiled water is sufficient.

You may notice tiny cracks or dryness at the transplant site during these days — this is completely normal and will resolve after the final thorough wash on the seventh day.

Managing Forehead Swelling After Hair Transplant

Swelling of the forehead often occurs during the first four days following a hair transplant.
Applying ice compresses to the forehead can help reduce swelling.
This swelling typically resolves naturally by the fourth or fifth day without the need for medication and poses no danger.

Complete Washing on the Seventh Day

On the seventh day, it is essential to thoroughly wash the transplanted area:

  • Soak a gauze pad in water and gently place it over the transplanted area for 1–2 hours to soften the scabs.

  • After softening, wash the area under warm running water using your hands and shampoo.

  • It is normal for some hair shafts to shed along with the scabs during this wash — there is no need to worry. The hair roots remain intact within the skin and new permanent hair will begin growing in the following months.

After the seventh day, you may return to your regular hair washing routine.
There are no special restrictions regarding shampooing frequency. Oily or dry scalp conditions do not affect the outcome of the transplant.

However, make sure to thoroughly wash the scalp to prevent the formation of white-headed pimples, which can negatively impact transplant results.

Important Points About Washing and Aftercare

  • There is no special sleeping position required after the procedure; rest however you feel most comfortable.

  • Initial hair shedding in the weeks following the transplant is normal and expected.

  • New hair growth typically starts around the third month post-procedure, with final results visible between six to eight months.
